GERMANY\u2013<\/strong> Lufthansa Group (LH)<\/a> has welcomed the decision by the Federal Republic of Germany to remove airport transit visa requirements for Indian nationals traveling to third countries through German airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new policy took effect on June 3, 2026, and is expected to make international journeys significantly easier for Indian travelers using Germany as a transit hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement, issued by the German Embassy in New Delhi, is expected to benefit passengers connecting through major airports, including Frankfurt Airport (FRA)<\/a> and Munich Airport (MUC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lufthansa Group, which currently operates more than 70 weekly flights between India and Europe, said the move will strengthen connectivity between India and Germany while improving access to destinations across Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The abolition of airport transit visa requirements removes a long-standing procedural hurdle for Indian travelers connecting through German airports to onward destinations. Passengers traveling to countries outside Germany<\/a> can now transit through German hubs without obtaining a separate airport transit visa, provided they meet all applicable travel requirements for their final destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The policy is expected to improve the passenger experience by reducing paperwork, shortening travel preparation times, and simplifying international itineraries. Meanwhile, SWISS (LX)<\/a> plans to launch its first-ever nonstop service between Bengaluru (BLR) and Zurich (ZRH) during the Winter 2026 schedule. The airline will also increase capacity with additional Airbus A330 flights between Delhi and Zurich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
