SINGAPORE-<\/strong> Air New Zealand (NZ) <\/a>and Singapore Airlines (SQ)<\/a> will significantly expand their joint network between Singapore (SIN) and New Zealand during the Northern Winter 2026 season, adding more flights, larger aircraft, and new direct connections into Christchurch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expanded partnership will increase total seat capacity between Singapore and New Zealand by 17 percent from late October 2026, adding nearly 72,000 additional seats across the alliance network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airlines said the move reflects strong demand for travel between New Zealand and major markets across Asia, India, and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand’s Network Expansion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand will launch three weekly non-stop flights between Singapore and Christchurch using its Boeing 787 Dreamliner<\/a> fleet. The service will operate during the Northern Winter 2026 schedule period between October 25, 2026, and March 27, 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new flights will complement Singapore Airlines\u2019 existing Christchurch operations, which currently reach up to 12 weekly services during peak months. Together, both carriers will operate up to 15 weekly flights into Christchurch between November 2026 and February 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand will also add four extra weekly services between Auckland (AKL) and Singapore using Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 aircraft. The carrier said the expanded network would improve connectivity for travelers arriving from Europe, Southeast Asia, and India through Singapore\u2019s global hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airlines noted that the Christchurch expansion will create more direct access to South Island tourism destinations while strengthening transit connections through Singapore Airlines\u2019 worldwide network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A380 Returns to Auckland<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Airlines will simultaneously upgrade its Auckland route by deploying the Airbus A380 on daily flights SQ285 and SQ286 during the Northern Winter season. The carrier currently operates Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A380<\/a> will increase premium and overall seating capacity on the Auckland service. Singapore Airlines\u2019 A380 configuration includes six Suites, 78 Business Class seats, 44 Premium Economy seats, and 343 Economy Class seats, totaling 471 seats across four cabin classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline said the aircraft upgrade would support rising demand for long-haul premium travel between Singapore and New Zealand. The larger aircraft will also provide stronger onward connectivity to destinations across Europe, Asia, and India through Changi Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore Airlines added that the expanded schedule would offer travelers more flexibility and additional travel choices during one of the busiest seasonal travel periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Singapore and Air New Zealand’s Alliance Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The long-running partnership between the two Star Alliance<\/a> carriers continues to play a major role in New Zealand\u2019s international connectivity strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand stated that Singapore functions as one of its most important transit gateways for passengers traveling beyond the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Executives from both airlines described the expansion as a response to sustained passenger growth and stronger post-pandemic international travel demand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also emphasized the importance of maintaining seamless connectivity between New Zealand and major global business and leisure markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The updated schedule remains subject to regulatory approval, although tickets for the new services are already available for sale. Both airlines expect the expanded operations to begin from late October 2026 as part of the Northern Winter timetable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
