LOS ANGELES-<\/strong> A disruptive passenger forced a China-bound Delta Air Lines (DL)<\/a> flight to divert to Washington state on Sunday, according to reports. Delta flight 39 was traveling from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)<\/a> to Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) when the situation escalated mid-flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crew members on the Delta Air Lines (DL) aircraft warned the passenger multiple times to comply with flight instructions before deciding to land at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). The wide-body jet was carrying 271 passengers at the time of the diversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Los Angeles to Shanghai Flight Diverted<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Delta flight 39 departed Los Angeles on a long-haul route bound for Shanghai. During the flight, crew members had to warn a passenger several times to follow instructions, an airline spokesperson told KOMO<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crew ultimately diverted the large aircraft to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport “for the safety of the aircraft and passengers,” Delta told the outlet. The decision interrupted a major trans-Pacific journey and left passengers stranded far from their destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcement officers met the plane at the gate after landing. It is not immediately clear what the passenger did to disrupt the flight or whether they faced charges upon arrival in Seattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight was operated by a 2-year-old Airbus A350-941, registered as N521DN<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diversion left the 271 travelers without a direct route to their destination. Passengers were required to spend the night in Seattle following the unscheduled landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
