QUEENSLAND\u2014<\/strong> A nurse in Australia has been formally reprimanded after admitting he submitted forged documents to Qantas (QF)<\/a> in an attempt to secure a refund for a non-refundable airline ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case, which involved false claims about his grandfather\u2019s death, was reviewed by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal following criminal proceedings and disciplinary action linked to his professional registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident drew attention across Australia\u2019s aviation and healthcare sectors because it involved fraudulent documents submitted to obtain a flight refund from the national carrier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities said the nurse fabricated medical paperwork after learning that the airline would only issue a refund if the intended passenger had died before travel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas Passenger Fake Refund Claim<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to tribunal findings, the nurse had purchased an airline ticket for his grandfather to attend his wedding in April 2024. However, the grandfather later suffered a cardiac-related medical event that prevented him from travelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After contacting Qantas regarding a cancellation, the man was reportedly informed that the fare was non-refundable unless the passenger had died. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators said he then downloaded a \u201cLife Extinct\u201d form from the internet and completed it using false details, including a forged doctor\u2019s signature and a fabricated identification number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The falsified documents were submitted to the airline, which processed a refund of approximately AUD 1,300. Queensland Police later launched an investigation after the fraudulent claim came to light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nurse eventually pleaded guilty in a Queensland Magistrates Court to charges including forgery, uttering, and fraud<\/a> related to dishonestly obtaining property. The court ordered him to enter a 12-month good behaviour bond and repay the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
