FRANKFURT-<\/strong> Lufthansa Group (LH)<\/a> has placed an order for 20 new long-haul aircraft at a list price of $7.7 billion. The order covers 10 Airbus A350-900s and 10 Boeing 787-9s, with deliveries scheduled between 2032 and 2034.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG first decided on the order, which the Supervisory Board then approved at its latest meeting. The highly efficient twin-engine long-haul jets represent a consistent step toward greater efficiency and sustainability across the group’s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lufthansa Group Expands Fleet With 20 New Widebodies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Executive Board selected a balanced split between the two leading widebody manufacturers. Ten Airbus A350-900s<\/a> and ten Boeing 787-9s<\/a> will join the group’s long-haul fleet under the new commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deliveries will take place between 2032 and 2034. The aircraft will replace older and less efficient models starting in 2032.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lufthansa Group will decide at a later date which airline and which hub will operate the new jets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, stated that the order represents a sustainable investment in the future of the Lufthansa Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He described it as a clear commitment to a modern fleet, to premium quality, and to further reducing carbon dioxide emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spohr added that aircraft featuring the latest technology are the most powerful tool for more climate-friendly air travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 are more fuel-efficient, quieter, and have lower emissions than their respective predecessors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The order continues what the group describes as the largest fleet modernization in its history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Efficiency and Sustainability Benefits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9 are positioned as highly efficient twin-engine long-haul jets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both types deliver lower fuel burn, reduced noise, and lower emissions than the aircraft they will replace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower fuel consumption directly translates into reduced carbon dioxide output. The new generation widebodies support the group’s stated sustainability commitments and form part of its long-term environmental strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fleet Standardization and Operational Gains<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The gradual standardization of the fleet reduces complexity and increases efficiency, operational flexibility, and operational stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A more uniform fleet allows the group to streamline daily operations across its member airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintenance and operating costs will also be reduced as a result. Further synergies will arise in areas such as cockpit and cabin crew licensing and spare parts management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total Order Backlog<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Including today’s order, the Lufthansa Group currently has a total of 232 state-of-the-art aircraft on its order list. Of these, 107 are next-generation long-haul aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2032 to 2034 delivery window reflects long-term fleet planning for the group’s widebody renewal program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 787-9s will join an already extensive pipeline of modern aircraft set to enter service over the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
