AMSTERDAM\u2014<\/strong> King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has completed his final scheduled Boeing 737 flight as a guest pilot for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL)<\/a>, closing a unique chapter in European royal aviation history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final flight took place on March 11, 2026, as KLM gradually phased out its Boeing 737 fleet in favor of newer Airbus A321neo aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dutch monarch has maintained active aviation involvement for decades and remains one of the few reigning heads of state to hold advanced pilot certifications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transition also signals the end of his regular Boeing 737 operations before retraining on Airbus aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dutch King to Pilot KLM A321neo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

King Willem-Alexander first obtained his Private Pilot\u2019s Licence in 1985 before earning a Commercial Pilot\u2019s Licence with Instrument Rating in 1987. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His aviation qualifications expanded steadily over the following years, eventually including multi-engine jet authorization, a Military Pilot\u2019s Licence, and an Airline Transport Pilot Licence obtained in 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before becoming king, Willem-Alexander flew humanitarian missions in Kenya for the African Medical Research & Education Foundation (AMREF) and later supported operations for the Kenya Wildlife Service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
