The woman attempted to move ahead of other passengers during the deplaning process.

She claimed she was simply walking past and did not push anyone. She argued that the man had “no business” trying to block her and that he deliberately used his elbow to stop her from advancing.

Her justification rested on three points: she was seated not far behind first class, she had no carry-on luggage to retrieve from the overhead bin, and she saw room to move forward. She stated that she “took her chance” to move because she had no bag.

She further claimed the man was upset because she had moved ahead while other passengers remained seated.

During the recording, she told the man’s apparent partner to relay a message, suggesting he should have “thought about his kids” before choosing to block her and that he “could have just moved to the side.”

The woman made her stance clear in the video, stating she would do whatever she wanted and that she was a grown adult.

She insisted she had been minding her own business and that the man should have never disturbed her.

She also declared she was not from New Jersey and told other passengers to mind their own business, adding that people inserting themselves into others’ affairs was “what’s wrong with people now.”

According to View from the Wing, another woman on the flight objected to the passenger’s extreme and constant profanity, stating that her children were seated right there.

Despite this, the recording showed the woman continuing to escalate the argument while filming herself with a camera filter active on her phone.

Photo: United Airlines Business Classs Seats With In-built Entertainment System / Creative Comms

Public Reaction

The video’s comment section filled rapidly with criticism. Past cases have shown passengers taking matters into their own hands against those who refuse to wait their turn during deplaning, sometimes escalating into physical confrontations.

The generally accepted deplaning etiquette calls for passengers to exit row by row, front to back, allowing each row its turn to stand, collect belongings, and move toward the door. Cutting ahead disrupts this process and creates conflict in a confined space.

However, deplaning etiquette does allow for practical judgment. If a passenger ahead delays and a genuinely clear, unobstructed path exists where moving forward would not block or slow anyone else, it is reasonable to advance. The critical distinction is whether the opening is truly clean.

Photo: Flight Simulator

Why Efficient Deplaning Benefits Every Passenger

Fast deplaning serves everyone on board. When passengers exit quickly and in order, more travelers make tight connections.

Quick aircraft turns give cleaning crews time to board and prepare the cabin for the next set of passengers.

Smooth turnarounds help airlines maintain on-time operations, which holds down costs and ultimately keeps airfares lower.

Standing up as soon as the seatbelt sign turns off also brings immediate physical benefits, especially after hours in tightly padded slimline seats.

When an aisle seat passenger stands, the middle seat passenger gains room to shift into that space, and the window seat passenger picks up a bit of additional elbow room. Using all available space in the cabin improves comfort for everyone in the row.

Photo: Colin Brown | Flickr

Standing Early Is Not the Same as Pushing Past Others

Passengers should stand as soon as they can, particularly those in aisle seats. That does not mean shoving ahead of others.

If other passengers are taking their time and a clear opening exists where advancing would not disturb or delay anyone, moving forward is acceptable. It keeps the deplaning process flowing and gets everyone off the aircraft faster.

But politeness remains the baseline rule. Moving ahead of others only works if a genuinely unobstructed path exists.

If another passenger can physically block the way with an elbow, the path was not actually clear, regardless of whether the blocking itself was appropriate.

Stay tuned with us.
