The aircraft was positioned at the end of the runway for takeoff when the issue occurred. A witness reported visible smoke coming from the aircraft as it taxied before the planned departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline immediately initiated towing procedures to clear the runway. Several arriving international flights were diverted into holding patterns while ground crews worked to clear the obstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the aircraft was towed away, flights resumed landing at the airport. However, the disruption caused a ripple effect across the schedule. Christchurch Airport (CHC) experienced congestion at bag drop areas as travellers waited for delayed connecting flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of these passengers were heading overseas on international connections through Auckland (AKL), and the delays added uncertainty to their travel plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Air New Zealand said airport operations across both locations were returning to normal as the day progressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for Air New Zealand confirmed that the situation was under control and that the airline prioritized passenger safety throughout the event.
