IndiGo (6E)<\/a> had planned to launch international flights from Navi Mumbai, but escalating tensions linked to the Iran\u2013United States conflict have increased jet fuel prices, delaying the planned March-end rollout, including the targeted March 29 launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navi Mumbai Airport International Flights Delay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Domestic flight operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) began during the Christmas period and have since scaled to 156 daily services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport currently handles around 20,000 passengers per day, with average passengers per flight increasing from approximately 155 to 170, reflecting stronger load factors and improved demand across routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily passenger traffic is projected to grow to 50,000 by December, indicating rapid adoption of the airport as a key aviation hub in western India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Hindu Businessline<\/a>, this growth trend aligns with increasing domestic travel demand and capacity expansion strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International operations were initially scheduled to begin by the end of March. IndiGo had specifically planned to launch international services from March 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, these plans have been deferred due to rising aviation turbine fuel costs driven by geopolitical tensions in West Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conflict has directly impacted airline operating economics, making international route launches less viable in the short term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport\u2019s expansion roadmap remains on track despite external disruptions. Planning and design work for the second terminal is actively underway, with construction expected to begin after the monsoon season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second terminal will increase passenger handling capacity from 20 million to 50 million annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development approach focuses on simplified designs and standardized equipment to improve efficiency and reduce construction complexity. Precast materials will be used wherever possible to accelerate execution timelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed in five phases, with a final planned capacity of 90 million passengers per year. This phased model supports scalable infrastructure aligned with long-term aviation demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adani Group is investing approximately \u20b980,000 crore in the project. This investment covers both airport expansion and landside development, including supporting infrastructure required for sustained operations and connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airport authorities have requested the Government of Maharashtra to reduce the value-added tax on aviation turbine fuel from 18 percent to 1 percent. This reduction is critical to improving airline cost structures and enabling route expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a greenfield airport, Navi Mumbai faces structural and operational challenges during its growth phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
