AUCKLAND-<\/strong> Air New Zealand (NZ)<\/a> has launched its refreshed loyalty programme, Koru, marking a major structural overhaul of its frequent flyer ecosystem. The airline introduced the programme as a replacement for its long-standing Airpoints system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new model immediately transitions more than five million members into Koru, offering a simplified and more flexible rewards framework. The airline, which operates through Auckland International Airport (AKL)<\/a>, has built the programme around customer feedback and changing travel behaviours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NZ’s Koru Programme Launch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand (NZ) stated that Koru reflects a shift toward clarity, accessibility, and meaningful recognition. The airline emphasised that customers wanted fewer complexities and more transparent benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Commercial Officer Scott Wilkinson highlighted that the redesign focuses on aligning loyalty rewards with real travel needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that travel now represents a wide range of experiences, from family visits to business trips and leisure journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Membership Transition Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Under the transition plan, existing Airpoints balances and Status Points automatically move into the Koru framework. Airpoints Gold members shift to Koru Gold, while other tiers align into equivalent categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme introduces Koru Bronze as an entry-level tier, supported by more than 40 partners across fuel, groceries, retail, and financial services. It also includes Status Retain, which helps Gold, Platinum, and Black members maintain their tier if they fall short of qualification thresholds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Koru Black becomes the highest tier, designed for the airline\u2019s most frequent travellers. Members at this level gain enhanced flexibility, including the ability to share benefits through Koru Circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benefits And Upgrades<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Koru Gold members receive milestone Status Rewards and two Recognition Upgrades each membership year. These upgrades allow cabin class elevation and remain valid for the duration of the membership cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has also confirmed major lounge developments at Auckland International Airport (AKL). Construction of the Koru Premier Lounge will begin later in the year, significantly expanding the existing footprint and nearly doubling its capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The redesigned lounge will feature two distinct spaces, separating premium Black and Platinum customers from Gold, Silver, Star Alliance Gold, and Koru Club members. Air New Zealand stated that this development will enhance comfort while managing growing demand for premium services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline also confirmed that Koru will continue to evolve with new partners and expanded redemption options. Future enhancements will focus on increasing flexibility across earning and redemption channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air New Zealand expects the refreshed programme to strengthen engagement and simplify loyalty tracking across all customer segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
