These riblets optimize airflow over the aircraft\u2019s fuselage and engine nacelles, reducing friction during flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each Boeing 777 in the Austrian fleet uses around 830 square meters of this specialized coating. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightglobal.com\/lufthansa-group\/2026\/03\/austrian-details-fuel-burn-saving-from-aerodynamic-film-on-777s\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Flight Global<\/a>, the film was applied to aircraft registered OE-LPA, OE-LPB, OE-LPC, and OE-LPD over three months ending in March 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following certification approval by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Austrian began commercial operations with the modified aircraft.
