TOKYO-<\/strong> Japan\u2019s largest airline, All Nippon Airways (NH)<\/a> or ANA, has revised its widebody fleet strategy by converting part of its Boeing 787-10 order into smaller but longer-range 787-9 aircraft. The move signals a clear shift toward strengthening long-haul international operations from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The adjustment comes as the airline aligns capacity with evolving global travel demand. By prioritizing flexibility and range, ANA aims to support network growth while maintaining efficiency across both domestic and international routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANA Swaps 787-10s to 787-9s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ANA originally placed an order for 11 Boeing 787-10 aircraft<\/a> in 2020 as part of its fleet renewal strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline has now converted three of these aircraft into Boeing 787-9 variants to better suit its operational needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the original order, seven 787-10 jets have already been delivered between 2023 and 2025. An eighth aircraft remains scheduled for delivery later this year, while the newly converted 787-9 aircraft are expected to join the fleet in 2027, reported Flight Global<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This change reflects a calculated decision rather than a reduction in capacity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline continues to invest in its Dreamliner fleet, but with a revised mix that better supports long-haul connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 787-10 aircraft delivered so far have primarily served ANA\u2019s domestic network. These high-capacity jets are well-suited for busy routes within Japan<\/a>, where demand remains strong, and flight durations are shorter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the airline\u2019s focus is now shifting toward international expansion. The Boeing 787-9 offers extended range capabilities, allowing ANA to operate longer routes more efficiently while maintaining optimal passenger loads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
