COLORADO-<\/strong> The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) launched a large interception mission after Russian military aircraft approached the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The response involved US and Canadian fighter aircraft supported by multiple aerial refueling and surveillance platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation included Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II<\/a>, Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor<\/a>, and McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet (CF-18) fighters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred near Anchorage, Alaska (ANC), within the Alaska and Canadian Air Defense Identification Zone monitored by NORAD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NORAD Intercepts Russian Aircraft Near Alaska<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

NORAD scrambled a total of 12 aircraft on March 4, 2026, after detecting 2 Russian military aircraft entering the Alaska and Canadian Air Defense Identification Zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The response included 6 fighter aircraft and 6 support aircraft, making it one of the largest interception missions conducted by NORAD in the past decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fighter aircraft were deployed to identify and track the incoming aircraft, while tanker and surveillance aircraft supported the mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
