TEXAS\u2013<\/strong> A business court in Texas has ruled that a lawsuit filed by American Airlines (AA)<\/a> against JetBlue Airways (B6)<\/a> over their collapsed Northeast Alliance can proceed, rejecting JetBlue\u2019s motion to dismiss the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dispute centers on more than $100 million<\/strong> in alleged unpaid contractual obligations following the dissolution of the partnership that once coordinated operations across major Northeast airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American JetBlue Alliance Lawsuit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Northeast Alliance (NEA), launched in 2021, aimed to strengthen competitive positioning in the heavily contested New York and Boston markets. The partnership allowed both carriers to coordinate schedules, share revenue, and offer reciprocal loyalty benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the agreement, the airlines jointly optimized slot usage and aligned network planning in the Northeast corridor. The collaboration was designed to enhance connectivity and compete more effectively against Delta Air Lines (DL)<\/a> and United Airlines (UA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in May 2023, a federal judge ruled that the NEA violated U.S. antitrust law. The court concluded that the arrangement reduced competition rather than fostering it, ultimately ordering the alliance to dissolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the termination, American initiated an audit and reconciliation process. The carrier alleges that JetBlue did not fulfill required financial payments tied to revenue-sharing and cost allocation provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines claims that New York-based JetBlue Airways failed to meet financial settlement terms after the alliance was struck down by a federal court in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The now-defunct Northeast Alliance had combined commercial operations at key hubs including LaGuardia Airport (LGA), John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas Court Decision<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

JetBlue sought to dismiss the case, arguing that the dispute should fall under New York jurisdiction because the alliance primarily involved Northeast operations. The airline contended that Texas courts lacked authority over the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judge Jerry Bullard of the Texas Business Court rejected that argument. The court determined that substantial alliance activity, including thousands of flights, employees, and leased airport assets, was connected to Texas-based American Airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Reuters<\/a>, the ruling allows American\u2019s claim for more than $100 million in damages to move forward. American maintains that JetBlue has \u201cdone nothing\u201d to reconcile alleged outstanding obligations since the alliance collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JetBlue has not publicly conceded liability and continues to dispute the jurisdictional and contractual interpretations presented by American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antitrust Fallout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The dissolution of the NEA marked a significant development in U.S. aviation competition policy. Regulators argued that close coordination between two major carriers in congested Northeast markets limited consumer choice and suppressed competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During its operational period, the alliance enabled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
