Without the approved paperwork, the airline declined to issue a boarding pass for the animal.

Police said that after being informed of the requirement, the woman tied the dog to a metal post near the check-in area and continued through the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint. Airline staff contacted law enforcement at approximately 11:39 p.m. after noticing the animal was left unattended.

Officers located the woman at her gate before departure. Body camera footage later released by police shows her claiming she entered the secure area to arrange a rebooking.

Photo: By Shinsuke Ikegame – Daily Photos in Vancouver, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=39788291

Police Response Details

As officers escorted the passenger back through the security checkpoint toward the check-in area, the situation escalated. Police reported that the woman became hostile and resisted their attempts to detain her.

Authorities subsequently arrested her on charges of animal abandonment and resisting a public officer. She was transported for booking, while airport personnel ensured the dog’s safety.

Police stated that the traveler allegedly indicated the dog had a tracking device, suggesting it would be acceptable to leave the animal behind temporarily. Officials emphasized that abandoning an animal inside an airport facility constitutes a criminal offense under Nevada law.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released bodycam footage days after the arrest, providing public confirmation of the sequence of events.

Photo: View from the Wing

Airline Pet Policies

Like many U.S. airlines, JetBlue permits trained service animals to travel in the cabin free of charge. When the owner did not reclaim the animal within the mandatory 10-day holding period, a local animal welfare organization assumed responsibility.

The dog has since been renamed Jet Blue and placed in foster care while awaiting permanent adoption.
