Travel demand between India and Dubai continues to exceed available seats, prompting renewed efforts to unlock additional connectivity opportunities, ET<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates Seeks Relief as India Demand Outpaces Capacity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Emirates continues to view India as one of its most important markets despite long-standing bilateral seat limits restricting expansion. Airline leadership confirmed that ongoing government discussions could eventually allow increased flight capacity, which would support travelers and strengthen regional aviation links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline currently operates 167 weekly flights to India, but capacity constraints prevent it from meeting actual passenger demand. According to company executives, flights regularly operate at full capacity, forcing the airline to turn away passengers due to limited seat entitlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates leadership emphasized that progress in bilateral negotiations would allow India to play a larger role within the airline’s global network. Bilateral Limits Continue to Restrict Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Seat limits between India and Dubai<\/a> have remained unchanged since the last revision of the air services agreement in 2014. Under current rules, both sides are capped at 65,000 weekly seats <\/strong>on the India-Dubai route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand, however, far exceeds these allocations. Emirates previously indicated that actual demand approaches nearly 200,000 weekly seats<\/strong>, highlighting the gap between market needs and regulatory limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, the India-Abu Dhabi<\/a> route remains capped at 55,000 weekly seats<\/strong>, further restricting growth across major UAE gateways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capacity restrictions have also affected Emirates’ market ranking, pushing India from one of its top five markets into the top ten despite sustained demand strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partnerships Offer Limited Solution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Emirates remains open to deeper cooperation with Indian airlines through codeshare and interline partnerships to improve passenger connectivity. Such partnerships allow travelers to access more destinations using combined airline networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, airline executives stressed that partnerships alone cannot solve growth challenges without increased international flight capacity. Expanded bilateral rights remain essential to unlock additional routes and frequencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates states it is prepared to quickly scale operations once additional entitlements become available. Network planning and fleet readiness remain aligned for rapid deployment if restrictions ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
