GLASGOW-<\/strong> Emirates Airline (EK)<\/a> is in discussions to restore double-daily flights between Glasgow Airport (GLA) and Dubai, responding to strong passenger and cargo demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glasgow Airport (GLA) expects the additional Emirates (EK) flight to strengthen export capacity while maintaining strong connectivity to Dubai (DXB) and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates Glasgow Flight Update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AGS Airports chief executive Kam Jandu confirmed with The Herald<\/a> that Emirates includes Glasgow in its expansion roadmap, though the airline has not committed to a firm timeline. Demand remains strong, and Glasgow previously supported a double-daily operation before services were reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airport operator hopes the second flight could arrive as early as the next scheduling cycle, though introduction may also slip into the following year due to Emirates managing capacity across many global destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current operations between Glasgow and Dubai continue daily using the Airbus A380<\/a>. The proposed second flight would likely operate using a Boeing 777, giving Emirates more scheduling flexibility while increasing freight capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cargo Demand Driving Airline Interest<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Cargo capacity has become a major factor in the airline\u2019s planning. The Boeing 777, although smaller than the A380 in passenger space, offers stronger cargo performance, making it attractive for routes with strong export demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scottish seafood exports, especially fresh fish and shellfish, drive much of this demand. Limited cargo space currently forces exporters to route shipments through Manchester, adding time and complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To address this, Glasgow Airport plans to expand refrigeration facilities at its cargo handling center. Faster cold-chain processing would allow seafood, including live shellfish, to reach international markets through Dubai<\/a> on the same day of departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whisky shipments also contribute significantly to cargo volumes, making the route commercially attractive beyond passenger demand alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite growing cargo importance, passenger demand continues to justify route expansion. Glasgow maintains a strong base of outbound and inbound travel compared with nearby markets, supporting airline confidence in additional services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The existing daily flight will remain operated by an Airbus A380, maintaining high passenger capacity on the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Premium Economy Could Arrive on Glasgow Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Emirates may also introduce Premium Economy on the Glasgow service once aircraft refits progress. The airline continues upgrading parts of its fleet to include the new cabin class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If refitting schedules align, Premium Economy could appear on Glasgow services within the next year, offering upgraded options for both leisure and business travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Glasgow awaits expanded Emirates capacity, Edinburgh Airport currently operates daily Emirates flights to Dubai using the Airbus A350.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
