This configuration improves the passenger-to-toilet ratio to approximately one toilet per 59 economy passengers, a notable improvement over the first three aircraft delivered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initial A321XLRs were configured with only two economy toilets, equating to roughly one toilet per 90 passengers. That layout drew criticism from passengers and placed additional pressure on cabin crew, particularly on longer transcontinental services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports from early operations indicated that economy passengers were occasionally directed to use the business class toilet to ease congestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qantas has confirmed that the first three A321XLRs will receive an additional economy toilet during their first major maintenance cycle in the coming years. Another three A321XLRs are scheduled for delivery by the end of June, accelerating the transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the airline, customer response to the A321XLR since its entry into service in September last year has been strong, with satisfaction scores ranking among the highest in the fleet. These upgrades are intended to extend service life by up to another decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Refurbishment work will also begin on 10 Airbus A330-200 aircraft at the Brisbane maintenance facility. Economy cabins will be fitted with the same seat design planned for the ultra-long-range Project Sunrise aircraft, while current business class suites will remain unchanged. As fleets age, maintenance requirements increase, raising the risk of operational disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite this, industry analysts see Qantas\u2019 accelerated fleet renewal as a necessary step in a market where airfares remain high, and passenger expectations continue to rise. Work is underway on the first of 11 aircraft in Hong Kong, introducing crew rest areas that will enable flights of up to 16 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The refurbishment will expand the business cabin from 21 to 44 seats while reducing economy capacity, lowering total passenger numbers from 335 to 325.
