SAO JOSE-<\/strong> Adani Aerospace & Defence<\/a> signed a MoU with Brazil’s Embraer<\/a> on Tuesday to assemble commercial aircraft in India, advancing the Make in India initiative and fostering a full regional transport aircraft ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This partnership targets the localization of manufacturing, supply chains, and services amid India’s growing aviation sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embraer, the third-largest aircraft maker after Airbus and Boeing, aims to produce regional jets in India, with Star Air (S5)<\/a> already operating Embraer aircraft domestically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key details like facility location and partnership structure remain under discussion, but work on site selection begins immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adani Embraer Partnership to Build Aircraft<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Adani Aerospace & Defence and Embraer formalized their collaboration through an MoU at the Ministry of Civil Aviation, attended by Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement enables Embraer to assemble its regional jets in India, leveraging Adani’s industrial strengths for deeper indigenization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeet Adani, Director at Adani Defence & Aerospace, stated that timeline and other details will be revealed in the next couple of months, with immediate work starting on the selected site in parallel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embraer seeks an equal partnership, but terms remain under finalization. The venture extends beyond assembly to create a full regional transport aircraft ecosystem, including aircraft manufacturing with assembly lines, testing, and delivery systems; supply chains; aftermarket services; maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO); and pilot training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deeper localization focuses on parts and sub-component manufacturing in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, emphasized India’s pivotal market role and the partnership’s blend of Embraer’s aerospace expertise with Adani’s industrial capabilities and indigenization commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that together, they will evaluate the most viable, advanced, and efficient solutions to support India’s regional transport aircraft ambitions and their potential implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeet Adani highlighted regional aviation’s role as the backbone of economic expansion, noting that initiatives like UDAN transform air connectivity across Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, making an indigenous regional aviation ecosystem critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also stated that the partnership strengthens strategic relations between India and Brazil by bringing complementary capabilities together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government Backing and Aviation Expansion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Civil Aviation Secretary Sameer Kumar Sinha addressed the event, stating India today ranks among the fastest civil aviation markets in the world. Airport infrastructure has expanded rapidly, and passenger and cargo traffic has grown steadily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UDAN scheme serves as a key driver of this change by reviving unserved and underserved airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sinha noted Indian carriers have placed orders for over 1,800 aircraft, reflecting a strong growth story. He called the MoU a turning point with great significance, describing the partnership between Embraer and Adani as a decisive step forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collaboration focuses not merely on assembling aircraft but on creating a robust domestic supply chain and positioning India as a trusted hub for manufacturing regional aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embraer’s Established Role in India<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Embraer maintains a strong footprint in India, with around 50 aircraft operating across 11 variants for the Indian Air Force, government agencies, and regional airline Star Air (S5)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has proposed its C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft to the Indian Air Force for the Medium Transport Aircraft program under a Make in India partnership with the Mahindra Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embraer forecasts India will require at least 500 aircraft in the 80-140 seat category over the next 2 decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adity Shekhar, Regional Vice President of Sales at Embraer, stated the E-Jets family can transform and grow regional connectivity from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in India, tapping into blue ocean opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embraer plans to showcase the E195-E2<\/a> and E175<\/a> at Wings India 2026, starting January 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
