SYDNEY-<\/strong> Qantas (QF)<\/a> Frequent Flyer has announced 3 changes affecting Emirates (EK)<\/a> award redemptions, including new First Class restrictions and higher point requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The updates remove a long-standing pricing gap between Qantas and Emirates Skywards and significantly reduce premium award value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qantas Tightens Emirates Award Redemptions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qantas and Emirates maintain a deep commercial partnership that allows Qantas Frequent Flyer members to redeem points across Emirates\u2019 global network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For years, this partnership created a clear arbitrage opportunity, especially in First Class, where Qantas points could be used more freely than Emirates Skywards miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reported by OMAAT<\/a>, Qantas has now confirmed changes that directly address this imbalance by matching Emirates\u2019 own redemption policies and revising award pricing across all cabins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Restrictions on Emirates First Class<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two of the three announced changes apply exclusively to Emirates First Class redemptions booked using Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Existing bookings are not affected by these updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minimum Age Requirement<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

From January 21, 2026, all passengers redeeming Qantas points for Emirates First Class must be at least 9 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This mirrors Emirates Skywards policy and removes access for younger travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elite Status Requirement<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

From February 18, 2026, Emirates First Class awards will only be available to Qantas Frequent Flyer<\/a> members holding Silver status or higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members without elite status will no longer be eligible to book First Class using points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third change impacts all cabins and all markets. Qantas is increasing the number of points required for Emirates award flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
