TAIPEI-<\/strong> EVA Air (BR)<\/a> has confirmed plans to launch nonstop flights between Taipei (TPE) and Washington Dulles (IAD) starting in July 2026. The service will mark the first time this ultra-long-haul market has ever been operated nonstop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new route expands EVA Air\u2019s North American network to ten destinations and strengthens Star Alliance connectivity. According to Simple Flying<\/a>, the decision reflects strong premium demand and strategic alliance value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EVA Air Taipei to Washington Dulles Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Taipei<\/a> to Washington Dulles<\/a> route was confirmed on January 12 and was unusually disclosed by the EVA Air\u2019s CEO ahead of a formal announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EVA Air plans to operate the route four times weekly from July 2026, although the exact launch date and finalized schedule have not yet been published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service is expected to follow a similar timing pattern to the airline\u2019s New York JFK flights. The announcement closely followed South Korean carrier Air Premia<\/a> adding Washington Dulles to its route map, highlighting growing transpacific interest in the US capital region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aircraft Type, Cabin Layout, and Comfort<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

EVA Air will deploy the 278 seat Boeing 787-9<\/a> on the route. The aircraft features 3 cabins designed for long haul comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business class includes 26 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Premium economy offers 28 seats in a 2-3-2 layout with a generous 42 inch seat pitch. Economy class provides 224 seats in a 3-3-3 configuration with a 31 to 32 inch pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The business class product is widely regarded as one of the strongest in the global market and contrasts sharply with the much denser 429 seat Boeing 787-10 aircraft used by ANA on some routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Route Distance and Flight Time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On a great circle basis, the Taipei to Washington Dulles route measures approximately 6,834 nautical miles or 12,657 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, as EVA Air avoids Russian airspace, the operational distance is expected to be closer to 7,100 nautical miles or 13,149 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estimated block times suggest a flight duration of around 16 hours during the summer season, increasing to more than 17 hours during winter operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This places the service among the longest scheduled routes in EVA Air\u2019s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Washington Dulles Makes Sense<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Washington DC metropolitan area is home to more than 320,000 Asian residents, including approximately 14,000 Taiwanese nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While this alone does not guarantee route success, historical booking data provides clearer insight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 12 months ending October 2025, the combined Washington region airports of Dulles, Reagan National, and Baltimore handled roughly 38,000 two-way passengers traveling to or from Taipei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taipei did not rank among the top 10 Asian markets from the region, but the foundation was considered sufficient for growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Importantly, fare data indicates strong premium demand. The average one way fare across all airlines and cabins was approximately 1,666 US dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This compares with an average of 1,322 dollars from New York JFK and just 988 dollars from Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alliance Connectivity and Transfer Traffic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Washington Dulles is a major hub for fellow Star Alliance member United Airlines (UA)<\/a>, providing extensive domestic connectivity. This partnership significantly enhances the attractiveness of the route for onward US travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EVA Air has also stated that around 6 out of 10 US passengers connect onward in Taipei. This makes transfer traffic a critical component of the Dulles service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key one-stop markets without backtracking include Manila with 68,000 annual passengers, Ho Chi Minh City with 60,000, Bangkok with 50,000, and Singapore with 35,000, based on combined Baltimore, Dulles, and Reagan data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 North American Destinations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With Washington Dulles added, EVA Air will serve ten destinations in North America. By August, following the launch, the airline plans 98 weekly departures to the region, equivalent to fourteen daily flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will give EVA Air more than half of all nonstop Taiwan to North America services. The carrier will operate significantly more flights than China Airlines<\/a>, with 40 weekly departures, STARLUX<\/a> with 29 departures, United Airlines with 16 departures, and Delta Air Lines<\/a> with 7 departures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During August, EVA Air plans 3 daily flights to Los Angeles using the 777-300ER, 3 daily services to San Francisco using a mix of 777-300ER and 787-9 aircraft, and ten weekly departures to Seattle operated by the 787-9 and 787-10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily flights will also be available to Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New York JFK, Toronto, and Vancouver. Washington Dulles will be served four times weekly using the Boeing 787-9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
