Shortly afterward, the pilots decided to return to the departure airport, citing the fallen panel and the need to check on the injured crew member.

During the return, the flight crew requested reduced speed, priority handling, and emergency medical services at the gate.

The pilots also informed controllers that the aircraft would be making an overweight landing due to fuel onboard.

Air traffic control facilitated a direct return to JFK, cleared the aircraft for a visual approach, and positioned emergency equipment as a precaution. The crew confirmed that the issue involved an interior cabin panel and was not related to turbulence.

Photo: Clément Alloing

Safe Landing and Medical Response at JFK

The Airbus A321 landed safely on runway 31L at John F. Emergency responders and medical personnel met the aircraft upon arrival.

The injured flight attendant, described as a male in his mid-30s, was struck on the head by the panel. While initial reports suggested the injury was not life-threatening, a medical evaluation was requested as a standard safety measure.

The aircraft involved was an Airbus A321 registered as N973JT.
