NEW DELHI-<\/strong> An incident involving Air India (AI)<\/a> has drawn regulatory scrutiny after one of its pilots was arrested at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) while preparing to operate a scheduled international flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case prompted Transport Canada to warn the airline that failure to comply with alcohol consumption rules for flight crews could result in suspension or cancellation of its flight authorizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India Pilot Arrested at Vancouver Airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The arrest took place on December 23 at Vancouver International Airport (YVR)<\/a>, where the pilot was preparing for Air India\u2019s scheduled daily service from Vancouver to Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to CBC<\/a>, Transport Canada confirmed it would engage with Air India and Indian aviation authorities to ensure appropriate follow-up actions are taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Canada reiterated that Canadian aviation regulations strictly prohibit pilots or any other crew members from acting within 12 hours of consuming alcohol or while under its influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulatory authorities prohibit airlines from assigning crew members who are unfit for duty, and they may enforce regulations in case of non-compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Richmond RCMP stated that the arrest followed a \u201creport of concern\u201d involving an airline crew member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police confirmed that they are investigating and will not release further information at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airport officials said the pilot had been preparing to operate Air India\u2019s daily Vancouver\u2013Delhi flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident delayed the departure for several hours, but the flight later departed safely. Authorities reported no safety issues once operations resumed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Oversight and Compliance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Transport Canada clarified that primary regulatory oversight of Air India rests with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, foreign airlines operating in Canada must fully comply with Canadian aviation safety regulations while within Canadian jurisdiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency stated that violations could result in the suspension or cancellation of flight authorizations, along with potential judicial and other penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Canada added that it will take immediate and appropriate action if it identifies any aviation safety concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air India did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
