DALLAS-<\/strong> Baltimore\/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is positioning itself for a potential new airline lounge as it completes a major concourse expansion. The development directly supports Southwest Airlines\u2019 long-term growth strategy at the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southwest Airlines (WN)<\/a> remains the dominant carrier at Baltimore\/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, and airport leadership has confirmed that space is available should the airline move forward with its long-discussed lounge concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airport leadership has made clear that Baltimore<\/a> is prepared if Southwest Airlines (WN) formalizes plans to introduce airport lounges, a product the carrier has publicly explored over the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Points Guy<\/a>, Southwest has signaled active interest in expanding its premium offerings, including lounges and upgraded onboard products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baltimore represents Southwest\u2019s third-largest base by seats and departures and its largest operation in the eastern United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This makes the airport a logical candidate should the airline choose to pilot or expand a lounge network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Airport officials have emphasized that the new infrastructure was designed with flexibility, allowing premium passenger amenities to be added without disrupting operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centerpiece of this preparation is the new A\u2013B Connector, the largest capital project in BWI\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The $500 million investment adds approximately 142,000 square feet of secure, post-security space linking Concourses A and B on a single level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, passengers moving between these concourses followed a longer, indirect route through the main terminal and food court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upgraded system can process up to 3,200 bags per hour, a significant increase from the previous capacity of 2,100 bags per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
