BRISBANE-<\/strong> Virgin Australia (VA)<\/a> resumes direct flights between Sydney (SYD) and Darwin (DRW) from 22 June 2026. The airline adds up to seven return flights weekly during peak periods, creating 80,000 seats each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daytime schedules suit business travelers, leisure visitors, and those visiting friends and relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virgin Australia Resumes Darwin Flights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Virgin Australia (VA) suspended year-round Sydney (SYD)-Darwin (DRW) flights in early 2023 after a network review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enhanced alignment with customer demand, including seasonal flying and shifting services to daytime departures, makes the time right for customers and the business to reinstate the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service operates from Darwin International Airport (DRW), a key Northern Territory gateway. Virgin Australia currently serves three NT gateways: Darwin (DRW), Alice Springs (ASP), and Uluru (AYQ). These connections support regional tourism and economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alistair Hartley, Virgin Australia Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, emphasizes the route’s importance. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to reconnect Sydney and Darwin, 2 destinations that play an important role in Australia\u2019s tourism landscape,\u201d Mr Hartley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur return to the route will enhance travel options for passengers, drive competition, and reinforce the vital connections between metropolitan centres and regional Australia, with Darwin serving as a key gateway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He adds that the service provides greater flexibility for corporate travellers moving between the two cities. \u201cThe direct service will make it easier for travellers to visit friends and relatives, while delivering a significant tourism boost to both cities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reinstated route eases access to the Top End for visitors. It gives NT residents more choice and access to competitive fares when travelling to Sydney (SYD) and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Northern Territory Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill OAM, welcomes Virgin Australia\u2019s decision to resume a direct seasonal service between Darwin (DRW) and Sydney (SYD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTerritorians have been asking for more aviation routes and affordable options, so we are delighted by today\u2019s announcement,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have listened to Territorians who want more daytime flights, so this service is a great addition to the schedule options and provides greater flexibility for travellers,\u201d Ms Cahill continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government focuses on sustainably growing the Territory\u2019s aviation sector and improving connectivity, choice, and competition for Territorians and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The route strengthens links between New South Wales and the Northern Territory. It supports tourism growth and offers practical daytime options in both directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
