ATLANTA-<\/strong> Delta Air Lines (DL)<\/a> passengers faced widespread delays on Friday as all departures at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) were halted following a major systems outage. The ground stop affected only Delta operations at the McNamara Terminal, even as other carriers at DTW continued normally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta (DL) said the issue stemmed from a local connectivity failure at Detroit (DTW), while a separate technology breakdown in the United Kingdom forced a Delta flight bound for Edinburgh Airport (EDI) to divert. Both events added pressure on the carrier\u2019s global operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta Flight Delayed at Detroit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The FAA issued the initial ground stop for DTW around 5 a.m. local time after Delta reported system failures that prevented normal departures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency first anticipated lifting the restriction by 7 a.m., then pushed it to 9 a.m., noting a significant chance the stop could extend further. FAA<\/a> data later showed a rapid increase in cumulative delay minutes as the outage persisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delta confirmed a full pause of flights at DTW in its 8:45 a.m. update, citing a technical connectivity issue inside the terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 9:40 a.m., the airline reported that operations were resuming and that a travel waiver had been issued for customers flying through Detroit on December 5 and 6. The carrier advised passengers to continue monitoring updates through its app and website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another Incident<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While Detroit grappled with system failures, Delta Flight 208 from New York to Edinburgh experienced a separate disruption linked to a UK air traffic control outage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boeing 767<\/a> circled near Edinburgh (EDI) before abandoning its approach and diverting to Dublin, where it landed just after 10 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edinburgh Airport confirmed an air traffic control technology issue that temporarily halted all operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unrelated Global Internet Outage Adds Confusion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A widespread outage at Cloudflare, which disrupted major websites worldwide, raised questions about possible links to Delta\u2019s issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No connection has been confirmed. Monitoring site Downdetector did show rising reports of Delta computer outages affecting check-in systems and the airline\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delay and Cancellation Numbers Rise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

FAA data and FlightAware listings highlighted escalating operational strain. By early morning, Detroit recorded 64 delays and 49 cancellations<\/strong>, while nationwide figures for Delta included more than 700 delays and 100 cancellations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travelers voiced frustration online, describing blank terminal screens, missing announcements, and crews waiting without information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
