CHICAGO-<\/strong> A United Airlines (UA)<\/a> flight attendant on a transatlantic service from San Francisco (SFO) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) was found heavily intoxicated upon arrival and required medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crew member, whose blood alcohol content was nearly ten times the permitted limit, has avoided jail but must pay a fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Court documents confirmed that the crew member admitted to performing aviation duties while drunk. While the incident raised safety concerns, the court ruled that no flight disruption occurred, resulting in a financial penalty instead of imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United Flight Attendant Drinks Alcohol<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On October 17, a United Airlines (UA) flight from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to London Heathrow Airport (LHR)<\/a> ended with a troubling situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon landing at Heathrow\u2019s Terminal 2, paramedics were called to assist a cabin crew member who appeared unwell, smelled strongly of alcohol, and was diagnosed with low blood pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tests later revealed a blood alcohol level of 216 milligrams per 100 milliliters, nearly ten times higher than the legal limit for cabin crew members. Reports showed the alcohol, vodka, had been brought on board privately by the crew member to \u201ccalm her nerves\u201d during the nearly 10-hour overnight journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the court proceedings, the defense presented statements describing the emotional struggles the individual faced before the flight. Ben Lansbury, speaking on the defense\u2019s behalf, stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe had the alcohol because she needed to calm down.\u201d
\u201cIt was something of a shock to her as to what happened.\u201d
\u201cShe deeply regrets what happened.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

These remarks indicated that personal grief and isolation played a role in her behavior, though they did not excuse it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Court Decision and Penalty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The court found that, while the flight attendant admitted to being intoxicated while performing aviation duties, there was no evidence of passenger disruption or in-flight disturbance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because the situation did not impact the flight\u2019s safety or operation, imprisonment was deemed unnecessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
