ABU DHABI\u2013<\/strong> Etihad Airways (EY)<\/a> has introduced its flagship Airbus A350-1000 on flights to Sydney (SYD)<\/strong>, marking the aircraft\u2019s first arrival in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting 6 December 2025<\/strong>, all ten of Etihad\u2019s weekly services between Abu Dhabi and Sydney will be operated by the A350-1000, replacing the Boeing 777-300ER. The change boosts efficiency, capacity, and passenger comfort on one of the airline\u2019s longest routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Etihad A350-1000 Lands at Sydney Airport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Etihad Airways\u2019 (EY) current fleet has reached 115 aircraft<\/strong>, up from 96 a year ago, reflecting one of its most rapid growth periods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expansion includes more A350-1000s, Boeing 787 Dreamliners, additional Airbus A380s, and the first A321LRs\u2014each designed to enhance the airline\u2019s product and sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A350-1000 features 44 private business suites with sliding doors<\/strong> and 327 economy seats<\/strong> arranged in a 3-3-3 layout. The aircraft delivers 25% less fuel burn and CO\u2082 emissions compared to older models, aligning with Etihad\u2019s commitment to sustainable aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2025<\/strong>, Etihad carried 1.9 million passengers<\/strong>, a 21% year-on-year increase<\/strong>, maintaining a high 89% load factor<\/strong>. Network capacity grew 25%<\/strong> year on year, supported by new aircraft and routes across Asia, Africa, and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Etihad has launched or announced 31 new destinations in 2025<\/strong>, including Medan (Sumatra)<\/strong>, Phnom Penh (Cambodia)<\/strong>, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)<\/strong>, and Krabi (Thailand)<\/strong>, bringing its network close to 90 destinations<\/strong> worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europe remains a key growth region, with flights across the continent up 35%<\/strong> last summer compared to the previous year. The airline now operates nine Airbus A350-1000s<\/strong>, with 11 more on order<\/strong> from Airbus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enhanced Service for Sydney Passengers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From 1 June 2025<\/strong>, Etihad passengers has gained improved domestic connectivity in Australia through a new interline agreement with Qantas (QF)<\/strong>, following the end of the airline\u2019s previous partnership with Virgin Australia. This ensures continued one-stop access across major Australian cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Scott Charlton, CEO of Sydney Airport<\/strong>, the A350\u2019s arrival signals Etihad\u2019s confidence in the Sydney market. He highlighted the aircraft\u2019s efficiency and enhanced passenger experience, describing it as \u201cfantastic news for travelers on Etihad\u2019s longest route globally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move also supports Sydney Airport\u2019s<\/strong> broader strategy to strengthen its role as Australia\u2019s leading international gateway<\/strong> by attracting next-generation aircraft and expanding global connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By December 6, 2025<\/strong>, all Sydney flights will transition fully to the A350-1000<\/strong>, offering passengers a more comfortable and environmentally responsible journey between Abu Dhabi (AUH)<\/strong> and Sydney (SYD)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
