DALLAS-<\/strong> American Airlines (AA)<\/a> has opened ticket sales for its first Airbus A321XLR flights, marking a new chapter in the carrier\u2019s premium transcontinental service. The aircraft will enter scheduled service between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX)<\/a> beginning December 18, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Airbus A321XLR will initially operate up to two daily frequencies on the JFK\u2013LAX route, signaling American\u2019s transition away from its current A321T fleet on this high-demand corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Airlines A321XLR Debut Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The A321XLR\u2019s entry into domestic service follows its recent delivery from Hamburg, Germany, and arrival in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aircraft will be available for booking under the flight code AA255<\/strong>, with nonstop service covering the 6-hour, 23-minute route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American\u2019s schedule filings currently list A321XLR operations through February 11, 2026, though additional routes and frequencies are expected as more aircraft join the fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By March 2026, the airline is anticipated to begin deploying the XLR on select transatlantic routes, supported by a new pilot base dedicated to long-range narrowbody operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American\u2019s Airbus A321XLRs<\/a> feature 155 seats across three cabins\u201420 in business class, 12 in premium economy, and 123 in economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The business class cabin follows a 1-1 layout, offering direct aisle access for every passenger and an upgraded hard product tailored to the narrowbody\u2019s design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The premium economy section, arranged in a 2-2 configuration, closely resembles domestic first-class seats on comparable aircraft. Passengers can expect amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, AC, and USB power outlets, Apple Music access, seatback entertainment, and personal device streaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This configuration replaces the older A321T, which offered 102 seats split between first, business, and economy. The shift removes 10 first-class seats but adds 12 premium economy and 51 economy seats, increasing total capacity while refining the overall product mix for transcontinental travelers, OMAAT<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
