SINGAPORE\u2014<\/strong> Flight VN661 of Vietnam Airlines (VN)<\/a>, bound for Singapore (SIN)<\/strong>, made an emergency return to Noi Bai International Airport (HAN)<\/strong> on October 19, 2025, after a passenger suffered a medical emergency shortly after takeoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the airline, a 52-year-old passenger from the Philippines experienced a sudden seizure and lost consciousness mid-flight, prompting immediate in-flight medical assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after departure from Hanoi, the crew of Vietnam Airlines flight VN661 <\/strong>responded to the medical emergency by calling for any doctors or nurses onboard. Cabin crew provided oxygen and administered first aid while coordinating with the captain. Despite their efforts, the passenger\u2019s condition did not stabilize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The captain made the decision to turn the aircraft back to Hanoi, prioritizing the passengers\u2019 safety. Ground staff at Noi Bai International Airport were alerted in advance to arrange emergency medical support on arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crew followed standard emergency protocols, contacting air traffic control and diverting to the nearest suitable airport \u2014 Barcelona El Prat (BCN) \u2014 where local medical authorities met the aircraft. Passengers were asked to disembark while officials handled the situation and coordinated with the airline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Airways confirmed the diversion and expressed condolences to the family, stating that the airline\u2019s team provided support to affected travelers. The flight to Abuja resumed after a replacement aircraft was arranged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deceased passenger, Air Vice Marshal Osita Obierika (retired), had reportedly been in the United Kingdom for cancer treatment and was returning home to Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
