NEW YORK-<\/strong> A JetBlue Airways (B6)<\/a> flight from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) had an unusual but lighthearted exchange with air traffic control during landing on October 9, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight JBU126<\/strong>, operated by an Airbus A220-300<\/a>, was cleared to land after a late handoff to the tower. The controller jokingly told the pilot, \u201cI got a number for you to copy,\u201d a phrase typically used when a pilot needs to contact the tower after a possible incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As JetBlue 126 approached runway 4R at New York JFK<\/a>, the pilot established contact with the tower later than usual. The controller cleared the aircraft to land, noting the \u201cvery late switch.\u201d Despite the delay, the landing proceeded safely and without issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the aircraft vacated the runway, the tower controller told the pilot, \u201cI got a number for you to copy.\u201d This phrase usually signals that the pilot must call air traffic control regarding a potential infraction, so the pilot\u2019s quick, surprised response\u2014\u201cStand by\u201d\u2014was understandable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moments later, the controller clarified he was joking, adding, \u201cBecause of the late check-in, that was the whole joke.\u201d The pilot laughed, replying, \u201cYou got me.\u201d The exchange ended with both parties in good spirits as the aircraft continued taxiing to the gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ATC recording shows that the interaction began with standard approach instructions. JetBlue 126 was told to turn right to heading 020, maintain 2,000 feet until established on the localizer, and was cleared for the ILS approach to runway 4R.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the pilot switched to the tower frequency, the controller remarked on the \u201cvery late switch\u201d before issuing landing clearance. The flight landed safely and was instructed to cross runway 4L and hold short. That\u2019s when the joke occurred, catching the pilot off guard for a moment before the tone shifted back to normal coordination about gate parking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
