MUNICH-<\/strong> Germany has officially placed an order for 20 new Eurofighter Typhoon<\/a> jets to reinforce its air defense and support NATO\u2019s collective security framework. The contract was signed in Manching (MUC), the final assembly base of Airbus Defense and Space, located near Munich, Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2031 and conclude by 2034, marking a significant step in Germany\u2019s modernization of its air fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new order, signed between Eurofighter GmbH and the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA), underlines Germany\u2019s long-term commitment to sovereign European air power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It complements the country\u2019s Project Quadriga, under which 38 advanced Eurofighters were previously ordered to replace older aircraft in the German Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Germany Orders 20 Eurofighter Jets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Under this latest agreement, Airbus<\/a> will produce 20 Tranche 5 Eurofighter jets, equipped with 52 EJ200 engines and fitted with next-generation systems. These aircraft will replace part of the German Air Force\u2019s aging Panavia Tornado fleet, which is set to retire over the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each Eurofighter will feature the E-Scan radar system and the Arexis electronic warfare suite, developed by Sweden\u2019s Saab, significantly enhancing detection, tracking, and electronic warfare capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These upgrades will boost Germany\u2019s ability to secure NATO airspace and conduct both defensive and offensive missions with higher precision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Eurofighter programme is Europe\u2019s largest defense cooperation initiative, jointly led by Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It supports more than 100,000 jobs across 400 companies in Europe, including 25,000 positions in Germany and around 120 German suppliers contributing to the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Future Outlook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With over 740 Eurofighters ordered by nine countries, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar, the aircraft remains the most successful European fighter jet in production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Germany\u2019s renewed order follows recent contracts by the Spanish Air Force for 25 jets and the Italian Air Force for 24 jets, signed at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The German Air Force plans to operate the Eurofighter fleet well into the 2060s, ensuring a consistent presence in European airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
