The aircraft landed safely at Auckland, where the airline’s technical team began inspecting the issue.

Air New Zealand confirmed the return was a precautionary decision. By flying back to Auckland (AKL), the airline ensured that its in-house engineers could handle the issue promptly and under optimal conditions. The carrier stated that passenger safety was never compromised, and crew members kept travelers informed throughout the flight.

The airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Alex Marren, said the decision aligned with standard aviation safety protocols. “Our engineering team in Auckland is best placed to carry out the necessary repairs, so the decision was made to return the aircraft to ensure it can safely re-enter service as soon as possible.”

As a direct result of the diversion, the corresponding return flight NZ176 from Perth (PER) to Auckland (AKL) on September 3, 2025 was cancelled.
