AHMEDABAD-<\/strong> The Gujarat government has initiated land acquisition for two upcoming greenfield airports at Dahod and Dwarka, strengthening the state\u2019s aviation growth strategy. The step comes after feasibility studies conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI)<\/a>, which found these locations suitable for future development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The state government, in coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and AAI, is moving forward to expand air connectivity. This development follows Gujarat\u2019s larger aviation roadmap, which includes new greenfield airports alongside the expansion of existing facilities like Ahmedabad (AMD) and Rajkot (RAJ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dahod Greenfield Airport Development<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dahod has been identified as a viable site for a new airport following detailed pre-feasibility studies. The project aims to serve industrial and regional passenger demand in eastern Gujarat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the exact land parcel has not been disclosed, the Gujarat government confirmed that acquisition work is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once complete, the airport will help reduce travel dependence on Indore and Ahmedabad (AMD)<\/a> for air connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dwarka Greenfield Airport Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dwarka in Devbhumi Dwarka district will soon see a new airport near Vasai village, around 12 kilometers from the city. Authorities have earmarked about 300 hectares for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the total area, nearly 45% is government-owned<\/strong>, while the rest will be acquired from private holders. The location has been chosen after earlier attempts failed due to sensitive coastal and defense restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dwarka is a major pilgrimage and tourism hub. The proposed airport will significantly reduce travel time for visitors coming from Ahmedabad and Mumbai (BOM)<\/a>. At present, travel by train takes nearly eight to seventeen hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The site may also provide logistical benefits for defense operations, given its proximity to the Arabian Sea. This dual role underlines its strategic and civilian value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gujarat Plans New Airports<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Gujarat government has identified eleven potential sites for greenfield airports. Of these, Dahod, Dwarka, Morbi, Dhordo, and Rajpipla were declared feasible by AAI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dholera International Airport (DIA), another greenfield project, is on track for completion by December 2025. Once operational, it will serve as a major international gateway for the Dholera Special Investment Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides greenfield airports, Gujarat is also acquiring land to expand existing airports. Proposals for other airstrips are under review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The Hindu<\/a>, the government confirmed the expansion of Keshod Airport in Junagadh district, with 205 acres of government and private land already acquired and transferred to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024\u201325, the airport handled 19,322 passengers, marking a 39% increase from the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
