The flight DL1203 departed from Salt Lake City (SLC) en route to Portland International Airport (PDX).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident occurred shortly after takeoff, forcing the aircraft to divert back to Salt Lake City. During its initial climb, the cockpit received a cabin pressurization system alert, prompting the pilots to level off at just 9,000 feet instead of continuing to cruising altitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FlightRadar24 data shows the aircraft circling back toward Salt Lake City. Within 16 minutes of departure, the plane landed safely, but not before multiple passengers experienced severe discomfort and barotrauma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports described children screaming in pain as their ears popped violently. One passenger\u2019s coworker even suffered a ruptured eardrum, with blood coming from the ear during the descent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paddleyourownkanoo.com\/2025\/08\/29\/delta-air-passenger-suffered-permanent-hearing-loss-after-boeing-737-pressurization-system-malfunction\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">PYOK<\/a>, between 10 and 15 passengers required hospital treatment after the emergency landing. However, Oxygen masks deploy automatically at cabin altitudes around 14,000 feet to prevent hypoxia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case, the aircraft never reached that threshold, so masks did not drop despite the pressurization problem.
