DUBAI\u2014<\/strong> Emirates Airline (EK)<\/a> passengers continue to be surprised by a hidden space inside the Airbus A380 that crew call the \u201cHarry Potter cupboard.\u201d Located beneath a staircase at the front of the aircraft, this small room is reserved for the purser, the lead flight attendant onboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The space is not for rest but functions as an office where the purser can oversee operations, manage paperwork, and control the in-flight entertainment system. On a superjumbo departing Dubai International Airport (DXB)<\/a>, this tucked-away office is part of the airline\u2019s approach to cabin management that has become increasingly rare on modern aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emirates A380 Secret Office for Crew<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dedicated work areas for the chief flight attendant were once a common feature on widebody aircraft such as the Boeing 747 (B744)<\/a>, Boeing 777 (B77W), and Airbus A340 (A343).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When airlines first introduced seatback entertainment, the hardware needed was bulky, requiring central control units. Positioning these in a purser\u2019s office gave the cabin manager both oversight and a functional workspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the A380, Emirates designed the space beneath the forward staircase to serve as this office. Here, the purser can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
