MUMBAI\u2013<\/strong> A Tata Group-owned Air India (AI)<\/a> flight bound for Jodhpur (JDH) aborted its take-off on Friday after the pilots detected a technical issue during the roll at Mumbai Airport (BOM). Flight AI645, scheduled for August 22, returned safely to the bay after the cockpit crew decided to discontinue departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline confirmed that standard operating procedures were followed and passengers were later provided with alternative travel arrangements. The aircraft was grounded for inspection before being cleared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred when Air India AI645 was preparing to depart from Mumbai (BOM)<\/a> for Jodhpur (JDH). During the initial phase of the take-off roll, the pilots identified an operational problem and immediately decided to abort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aborted take-offs are rare but crucial safety actions designed to prevent risk when technical discrepancies are detected at high speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similar Issues on International Routes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Mumbai\u2013Jodhpur disruption followed another recent cancellation on the airline\u2019s international network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 17, Air India cancelled its Zurich (ZRH) \u2013 Delhi (DEL) service, AI152<\/strong>, citing a technical problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cancellation was later compounded by Zurich Airport\u2019s night curfew, which prevented further departures. Passengers on the affected flight were provided hotel accommodation, refunds, or free rescheduling options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to passengers, the Zurich-bound flight had experienced an engine-related concern. The airline, however, only confirmed a technical fault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within 48 hours of the Zurich incident, Air India (AI) had also cancelled at least two more flights, including one on an international route, again due to last-minute technical issues. While none of these events compromised safety, they highlight the airline\u2019s ongoing challenges in managing operational reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline operates Boeing 787-8<\/a> and 787-9 aircraft on European sectors. After recent events, Air India confirmed it conducted detailed inspections across its 787 fleet and found no systemic issues. Nonetheless, additional technical checks have been stepped up as part of its post-privatization maintenance protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
