NEW YORK\u2014<\/strong> Doha-based carrier, Qatar Airways (QR)<\/a>, recently crowned World\u2019s Best Airline 2025 by Skytrax for a record ninth time, has announced plans to relocate its New York operations to The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning in 2026, the airline will open a premium 15,000-square-foot lounge, its first dedicated facility in both New York City (JFK) and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move highlights Qatar Airways\u2019 commitment to elevating passenger experience while reinforcing the strategic importance of New York City (JFK) within its global network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the upcoming relocation, Business Class passengers will gain access to an exclusive lounge offering direct boarding, advanced amenities, and luxury services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways in the United States<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Qatar Airways launched New York (JFK) operations in 2008 and now serves 11 US destinations, carrying over 3 million passengers annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 18 weekly flights to New York, the airline connects travelers to more than 170 global destinations via its hub, Hamad International Airport (DOH), consistently ranked among the best airports worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to being crowned World\u2019s Best Airline 2025, Qatar Airways has been recognized for World\u2019s Best Business Class and World\u2019s Best Business Class Lounge. The airline has also led in environmental responsibility, holding the highest IATA Environmental Assessment certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next year is going to be a big year for JFK. About 50 airlines are expected to shuffle around the airport, which means nearly two-thirds of all carriers will be moving to different terminals. That\u2019s a lot of change packed into one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bottom Line<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the most notable moves is Qatar Airways leaving Terminal 8 and setting up shop in the brand-new Terminal One. So, what does that actually mean if you\u2019re flying with them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s start with the current setup. Qatar Airways uses Terminal 8, which is also home to American Airlines. Honestly, Terminal 8 is one of the better existing terminals at JFK. It feels modern, doesn\u2019t get unbearably crowded, and Qatar Airways passengers get access to two decent lounges: the Greenwich Lounge and the Soho Lounge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terminal One, though, is being built as a \u201cnext generation\u201d facility. If it delivers on its promises, passengers starting or ending their trip in New York will almost certainly get a nicer experience there\u2014something more in line with the overhaul we\u2019ve already seen at LaGuardia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where things get a little tricky is for connections. Right now, being in Terminal 8 makes it simple to connect between Qatar Airways and American flights. Once Qatar moves, you\u2019ll need to take the AirTrain landside between Terminal One and Terminal 8. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely less convenient if you\u2019re making a tight connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At one point, it looked like Terminal 8 was going to become the big oneworld hub at JFK. But with the new terminals coming online, it makes sense for airlines to shift into spaces where they can offer a flashier product, new lounges, and a more polished overall experience, OMAAT<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, if you\u2019re starting or ending your trip in New York, the move to Terminal One is a win. If you\u2019re connecting to American, it\u2019s more of a mixed bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
