MUMBAI- <\/strong>India\u2019s largest LCC, IndiGo Airlines (6E)<\/a>, has quietly updated its booking engine with plans to increase flight frequencies on its international routes starting September 22, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline will enhance services to Manchester (MAN) and Amsterdam (AMS) from Mumbai (BOM), while also boosting the Bangalore (BLR)-Mauritius (MRU) route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This move is also noted by senior route network planner Behramjee Ghadially on LinkedIn<\/a>. It signals IndiGo\u2019s intent to strengthen its global footprint as the airline continues to expand its global connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo Adds More Flights to AMS and MAN<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo is set to increase its Mumbai-Manchester service <\/strong>from three to four weekly<\/strong> nonstop flights, using a Boeing 787-9 (B789) aircraft<\/a>. The increased flights will be in effect from September 22. It appears that IndiGo can get strong advance bookings, reflecting demand from the Indian diaspora and leisure travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the Mumbai-Amsterdam route<\/strong> will see a more ambitious jump, rising from four to six weekly<\/strong> flights starting September 22. The flights are going daily from October 12, also on a B789.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 330-seat Dreamliner\u2019s deployment on this route raises questions about filling capacity, given the annual passenger demand of 79,000 between Mumbai and Amsterdam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo\u2019s move suggests that the Amsterdam<\/a> increase might lean more on securing long-term slots rather than immediate commercial need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To boost loads, IndiGo might be connecting Colombo (CMB) and Male (MLE) via Mumbai <\/strong>to Amsterdam, tapping into untapped markets with 59,000 and 12,000 annual passengers, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, with IndiGo downgrading its Istanbul flights to an Airbus A321 from September, the airline could redirect North America and Europe code-share traffic via Amsterdam, partnering with KLM and Delta to optimize occupancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, Ghadially envisions future growth, suggesting that once more Airbus A321neoXLRs arrive next year, IndiGo could link Indonesia\u2014specifically Denpasar (DPS) and Jakarta (CGK)<\/strong>\u2014with Amsterdam via Mumbai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, 332,000 passengers travelled between Amsterdam and these Indonesian cities (203,000 to DPS, 129,000 to CGK), presenting a sizable opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bangalore-Mauritius Route Goes Daily<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Starting October 27, 2025<\/strong>, IndiGo will increase its Bangalore-Mauritius (BLR-MRU) route from four weekly to daily nonstop<\/strong> flights. This comes about a year after the flights started. The airline began flying this route in November 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This expansion targets not just point-to-point traffic but also serves as a feed for domestic India and select Asian connections. Bangalore<\/a> is a key hub for IndiGo and connects passengers from cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline\u2019s large presence in Kempegowda International Airport makes it seamless for the airline to capture a broader market share. The route\u2019s growth hinges on leveraging IndiGo\u2019s extensive domestic network rather than relying solely on direct demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increased frequencies will offer travelers more options, with the Boeing 787-9\u2019s range and comfort enhancing the long-haul experience on Mumbai<\/a> routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bangalore-Mauritius service, which is operated with an Airbus A320, caters to leisure and connecting passengers. However, filling the Amsterdam flight\u2019s capacity may require creative scheduling or partnerships, especially with KLM also serving the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo will be inducting more 787s in the coming months, which will support this expansion. However, operational challenges like crew training and slot management at busy airports like Amsterdam Schiphol could arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The airline\u2019s focus on ancillary revenue\u2014such as baggage and seat fees\u2014will likely play a role in profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
