VADHAVAN\u2014<\/strong> A pre-feasibility study for a greenfield airport near the upcoming Vadhavan Port project has commenced, with a final report expected within six to nine months<\/strong>, according to officials familiar with the development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd (MADC), backed by the Government of Maharashtra, has appointed a joint venture between Grant Thornton and Nippon Koei India to conduct the study. The proposed Vadhavan Airport will serve the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Palghar, positioned to become a critical node in India\u2019s logistics and maritime strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vadhavan Airport: Third For Mumbai<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Vadhavan Airport is being strategically planned to support the Vadhavan Port, a deep-draft all-weather facility currently under development along Maharashtra\u2019s western coastline, ET Infra<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This port, located on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), is expected to enhance India\u2019s container handling capacity by 23.2 million TEUs, aiming to establish the country as a dominant maritime hub globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed airport will complement the port by offering seamless air connectivity for cargo and passengers, especially to and from nearby industrial and warehousing clusters such as Bhiwandi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, the port and airport will form a multimodal logistics ecosystem, integrating rail, road, and air transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Site visits for the pre-feasibility study have already been completed, and preliminary work has begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study, spearheaded by Grant Thornton and Nippon Koei India, will evaluate the technical, financial, and environmental feasibility of the proposed greenfield airport. Their findings will guide the government on the next steps for development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
