The incident prompted the temporary closure of one of the airport’s runways, affecting flight operations.

The Airbus A330-300 developed a hydraulic steering issue mid-flight, forcing pilots to divert to Dublin (DUB). Upon landing, the aircraft lost nose wheel steering capability, causing it to stop on the runway.

Flight AC819 was en route from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) to Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) when pilots detected a hydraulic system malfunction. This critical system failure impacted the aircraft’s nose steering, which is essential for ground maneuvering, particularly after touchdown.

The crew made a precautionary decision to divert to Dublin Airport (DUB), where emergency services were on standby. The aircraft landed safely at approximately 6:50 PM local time. Fire crews immediately inspected the plane on the runway to assess any further risks, as per standard protocol.

Due to the compromised steering, the aircraft was unable to vacate the runway independently. It required towing to a designated stand, leading to the prolonged closure of the affected runway. A hydraulic fluid leak was also reported, which further delayed the reopening process.

The emergency landing of AC819 significantly impacted operations at Dublin Airport (DUB). With the affected runway closed, flight arrivals and departures were restricted to a single operational runway, leading to delays and minor disruptions.

Stay tuned with us.
