MINNEAPOLIS-<\/strong> A Sun Country Airlines (SY)<\/a> Boeing 737 experienced a fiery engine malfunction shortly after taking off from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), forcing an emergency landing<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight was headed for Minneapolis\u2013St. Paul International Airport (MSP), when one engine sparked and flamed out mid-air, alarming passengers and prompting an immediate FAA investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sun Country 737 Emergency Landing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sun Country Airlines Flight 430 departed from LAX<\/a> on Monday night with 166 passengers onboard. Just minutes into the flight, the aircraft\u2019s right engine began emitting sparks and flames, according to eyewitnesses and confirmed by officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pilots quickly declared an emergency and safely returned the aircraft to LAX. Emergency vehicles were already positioned on the tarmac as a precaution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers onboard described the terrifying event, with one individual, Sarah, telling WCCO that she was seated directly next to the affected engine. \u201cI saw just a really bright flash out the window,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe passenger next to me held hands and kind of comforted each other, bracing for the worst.\u201d Another traveler, Ruth Sorensen, recalled the loud sound onboard, describing it as something akin to a lightning strike or explosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe weren\u2019t even in the air 25 minutes,\u201d she said. \u201cWe could actually hear the engine shutting down after this happened, and the flames were coming out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Daily Mail<\/a>, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)<\/a> has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the engine failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turkish Airlines Diverts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a separate incident this week, Turkish Airlines (TK)<\/a> Flight TK79 en route to San Francisco International Airport (SFO)<\/a> from Istanbul Airport (IST) had to divert due to a medical emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flight, which took off just before 2:30 PM local time, was over Greenland when a passenger suffered a severe medical issue. Flight attendants began CPR and consulted with ground-based medical experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the crew initially prepared to land at Keflavik Airport (KEF) in Iceland, the passenger was pronounced dead onboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the circumstances, the pilots made the decision to continue to Chicago O\u2019Hare International Airport (ORD)<\/a> for appropriate handling of the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the individual had already passed away, landing in US territory offered better logistical support without requiring immediate medical intervention outside the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
