GURUGRAM\u2014<\/strong> IndiGo Airlines (6E)<\/a> and Jetstar Airways (JQ) have announced a new codeshare agreement aimed at improving travel options between India, Australia, and New Zealand. The partnership will be effective from September 1, 2025, <\/strong>and has pending regulatory approvals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new partnership will enable IndiGo customers to book single-ticket itineraries connecting to 14 destinations served by Jetstar via transit points in Singapore, Bangkok<\/strong>, and Phuket<\/strong>. The agreement allows Jetstar-operated flights to appear under IndiGo\u2019s flight numbers, giving passengers access to Jetstar\u2019s network in Oceania through existing IndiGo routes in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo and Jetstar Codeshare Expansion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Starting July 21, 2025<\/strong>, IndiGo customers will be able to book Jetstar routes directly through IndiGo\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The integration covers cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Gold Coast<\/strong>, and Auckland<\/strong>, providing coordinated flight schedules and through baggage check-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passengers originating from cities across India, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 hubs, will be able to connect to Australia and New Zealand via Southeast Asian transit points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This eliminates the need to book separate tickets or transfer luggage manually, which will help in offering a seamless travel experience across both airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jetstar is a subsidiary of the Qantas Group and operates over 5,000 weekly flights to more than 85 destinations across the Asia-Pacific. The agreement follows the airline\u2019s decision to wind down operations of its Singapore-based subsidiary, Jetstar Asia<\/strong>, due to increased costs and regional competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resources from that closure are now being redirected to expand Jetstar\u2019s Australia and New Zealand operations, where demand remains stronger. The new codeshare will allow Jetstar to carry more traffic through its core markets. On the other hand, IndiGo will gain extended reach into cities it does not currently serve directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ever-growing Travel Demand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Travel demand between India and Oceania continues to rise. Australia and New Zealand remain popular among Indian tourists due to established diaspora communities and tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, New Zealand recorded nearly 500,000<\/strong> visitors to Queensland alone<\/strong>, with associated visitor spending reaching $821 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new codeshare will support continued growth by providing more direct, affordable routes for both leisure and business travelers. Local tourism boards and regional airports in Australia and New Zealand are likely to benefit from this new agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Indian travelers gain access to destinations not directly served by Indian carriers, especially secondary cities in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to tourism, the agreement also strengthens travel options for business passengers. Cities like Sydney, Melbourne<\/strong>, and Auckland<\/strong> are key commercial centers, and coordinated schedules will allow for better connectivity for trade-related travel. This comes at a time when economic relations between India and the Pacific region are expanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong Codeshare Network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo has made many such codeshare partnerships post-COVID. Now, a new agreement with Jetstar adds yet another feather to IndiGo\u2019s cap. Codeshare partnerships are being used increasingly by airlines to extend their network reach without launching new routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IndiGo already has existing codeshare agreements with Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Air France\u2013KLM,<\/strong> American Airlines, <\/strong>and many more. Jetstar has prior agreements with Emirates<\/strong> and KLM<\/strong>, showing the Qantas Group\u2019s global alliance framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This agreement continues that trend, allowing both carriers to leverage each other\u2019s networks in a cost-efficient manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For IndiGo, this shall reinforce its presence beyond South Asia without operating long-haul aircraft. For Jetstar, it increases access to Indian outbound traffic via Southeast Asian transit points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bottom Line<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

While this is good news for both of the airlines, regulatory clearances are still pending. The IndiGo\u2013Jetstar codeshare will likely take effect from September 1, 2025. Booking access is said to begin on July 21, subject to regulatory approvals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will enable more efficient use of Southeast Asian transit hubs like Singapore, Bangkok, and Phuket. These cities are already well-connected with multiple cities in India, which will allow both airlines to serve high-demand transcontinental routes without adding any new routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
