According to data from the U.S. Travel Association, Florida-bound leisure travel bookings from Northeastern states are up 15% year-over-year.

There is a continuation of trends that saw travelers favoring warm-weather domestic destinations over international options. Demand charts show that Orlando and Tampa continue to lead due to family attractions and winter holidaymakers.

American’s inclusion of Key West and West Palm Beach indicates a push toward smaller, high-yield markets where capacity is often constrained and fares tend to remain stable.

American Airlines has not yet published the exact aircraft types for the new routes. However, most Florida-bound services from Boston and New York are typically operated with Airbus A319 or A320 family aircraft.

These aircraft variants offer between 128 and 150 seats, depending on configuration. The Key West route, due to airport constraints, is almost certain to be served by the A319, which is already used on American’s existing operations into EYW.

American Airlines’ mainline fleet is now at 992 aircraft, up from under 890 two years ago.
