Kennedy Airport (JFK) diverted to Bangor (BGR) after an in-flight engine shutdown caused by a fuel imbalance.

The transatlantic flight landed safely at Bangor International Airport (BGR), where maintenance teams later identified and repaired a mechanical fault before the aircraft was returned to service.

Flight AA333, operated by American Airlines (AA), departed Athens International Airport (ATH) en route to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) on a scheduled transatlantic route.

While cruising at 38,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 290 nautical miles southeast of Bangor (BGR), the flight crew detected a fuel imbalance affecting the Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines powering the Boeing 777-200ER.

After performing standard in-flight procedures, the crew shut down the right engine as a safety precaution. The flight diverted to Bangor, Maine, and landed without incident on Runway 16 approximately one hour later. There were no reported injuries, and all passengers disembarked safely.

Post-landing, the aircraft underwent a detailed inspection. According to the Canadian Transportation Safety Board (TSB), maintenance teams found a broken fuel tube in the affected engine. The faulty component was replaced, and the aircraft was cleared for return to service.

Stay tuned with us.
