The airline will instead operate a seasonal Boston (BOS) to Amsterdam (AMS) route in an effort to retain valuable landing slots at the congested Dutch hub.

JetBlue’s move follows significant slot allocation challenges at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), which previously forced U.S. government intervention to maintain access. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) starting late October 2025, with plans to resume the route at the end of March 2026.

The decision reflects strategic adjustments due to ongoing slot constraints at AMS and a multi-year struggle for profitability across its transatlantic network.

The suspension follows JetBlue’s near-ejection from AMS in 2023, when Dutch authorities aimed to reduce aircraft movements at the airport. U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the State Department, intervened to secure JetBlue’s rights.

However, the airline is now opting out for the winter season, a move that may result in the permanent loss of grandfathered slots under European slot rules, Enilria reported.

Instead, JetBlue will introduce a seasonal winter-only route between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Amsterdam (AMS). Though slightly shorter in distance, such seasonal Northeast U.S.–Europe operations are rare and suggest a tactical effort to keep the airline’s slot portfolio alive.

ALSO READ: JetBlue Expands Mint Premium Service to Orlando and Newark

Photo: Aero Icarus | Flickr

Amsterdam Slot Dynamics and Route Adjustments

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), facing political and environmental pressures, has become increasingly restrictive for airlines seeking to maintain or grow operations.

JetBlue’s exit from the JFK–AMS route temporarily reduces competition on a corridor that typically sees high demand, even though detailed market data is currently unavailable.

JFK–AMS Route Overview (Jul–Oct 2025):

Average Daily Flights: 5.6 (Jul), 5.0 (Oct)

Average Daily Seats: 1,487 (Jul), 1,315 (Oct)

Carriers & However, with other airlines like KLM (KL) and Delta (DL) dominating the corridor, JetBlue’s ability to expand long-term remains uncertain unless the European slot system evolves.

Stay tuned with us.
