The flight had originated from Kolkata (CCU) and was en route to Patna (PAT) and Lucknow (LKO) as part of its multi-leg journey.

During post-landing checks, the pilot observed signs of reduced tyre pressure on the aircraft’s nose gear.

In accordance with safety protocols, the aircraft was grounded for a thorough inspection. Airport officials initially suspected either a puncture or misalignment. Although no major technical fault was confirmed, the aircraft was withheld from further operations out of an abundance of caution.

All passengers were safely disembarked at Birsa Munda Airport (IXR). IndiGo (6E) immediately activated its contingency protocols to minimize disruption.

Passengers scheduled for Patna were transported via road in coordinated taxi services arranged by the airline. Those heading to Lucknow were accommodated on connecting flights through other airports.

Affected travelers were offered full refunds or the option of rescheduling. According to an official from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the grounding was purely precautionary, with no damage or failure confirmed in the aircraft’s systems.

Speaking on the incident, the Ranchi airport director clarified that the grounding was not due to any confirmed defect. “The pilot felt one of the front tyres was slightly deflated. There was nothing technically wrong, but the decision to inspect the tyre thoroughly was taken in the interest of safety,” he stated.

Photo: avgeekwithlens/ Harsh Tekriwal

Similar Incident

An IndiGo (6E) flight bound for Mumbai (BOM) experienced a tyre deflation incident at Chennai International Airport (MAA) on April 26, 2025. The aircraft, originally scheduled to depart at 4:45 p.m., was returned to the bay for emergency maintenance.

Flight 6E5104, operated by IndiGo (6E), was preparing to depart Chennai (MAA) for Mumbai (BOM) when the pilot detected a deflated tyre during taxi-out procedures. The situation prompted immediate intervention by ground crews.

As the Boeing 737, leased from Corendon Airlines and registered as TC-COH, began moving from the bay, the pilot noticed an abnormal tyre pressure reading. He promptly alerted air traffic control (ATC), halting further taxi operations.

Following standard aviation protocols, a joint emergency response team comprising IndiGo technical staff and personnel from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) arrived at the scene. The aircraft was safely towed back to the maintenance bay.

Technicians quickly assessed the damage and replaced the deflated main wheel tyre. After verifying airworthiness and receiving clearance, the aircraft departed at approximately 7:00 p.m., resulting in a delay of about two hours.

Stay tuned with us.
