LONDON- Virgin Atlantic (VS) is launching its seasonal nonstop service between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Phuket International Airport (HKT) on October 18, 2026, expanding direct travel options between the United Kingdom and Thailand’s popular leisure destination. The route will operate three times a week during the winter season using the airline’s Boeing 787-9.
The new connection gives London travellers a direct alternative to connecting flights for reaching Phuket, an island that already attracts substantial winter traffic from European markets. Virgin Atlantic’s 258-seat aircraft will offer Upper Class, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins, while the seasonal schedule is designed to capture demand during the European winter and Thailand’s peak tourism period.

Virgin Atlantic London to Phuket Flights
Virgin Atlantic first announced plans for the Heathrow–Phuket route almost a year before the service’s October 2026 launch.
The airline will operate the flights three times weekly from mid-October through late March, adding a direct connection between London’s main international hub and southern Thailand.
The outbound flight, VS214, is scheduled to depart Heathrow at 3:45 p.m. and arrive in Phuket at 9:55 a.m. the following day. Its planned block time is approximately 12 hours and 10 minutes, reflecting the distance between the two airports.
The return service, VS215, is scheduled to take 13 hours and 40 minutes from Phuket to London. It will depart at 11:45 a.m. and arrive at Heathrow at 7:20 p.m. on the same day, subject to the published operating schedule.
The route will give passengers a nonstop option for reaching Phuket without changing aircraft at another international hub. It also adds a new destination to Virgin Atlantic’s long-haul leisure network, which serves travellers heading to holiday markets across several continents.

Boeing 787-9 Cabins
Virgin Atlantic will deploy its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the new service, using a configuration with 258 seats across three cabin classes.
The existing layout includes 31 Upper Class flatbeds, 35 Premium Economy seats, and 192 Economy seats.
Upper Class occupies a 1-1-1 arrangement, while Premium Economy uses a 2-3-2 layout and Economy follows a 3-3-3 configuration. Of the 192 Economy seats, 36 are designated Economy Delight, offering additional legroom compared with standard Economy seating.
The cabin mix provides a substantial premium offering for a leisure-focused route, with passengers able to choose between a lie-flat business-class experience, a separate Premium Economy cabin, and standard Economy seating.
The aircraft’s long-range capability also allows Virgin Atlantic to serve Phuket without an intermediate stop.
The airline is also preparing a wider cabin update for its Boeing 787-9 fleet. Its planned revised configuration will feature 44 Upper Class seats, 56 Premium Economy seats, and 127 Economy seats, increasing the number of premium seats while reducing standard Economy capacity.

Phuket Winter Demand
Phuket already receives extensive long-haul traffic from Europe during the winter travel season.
December 2026 schedules cited in the reference include 379 departures to Phuket from European markets, representing 125,897 seats and more than 655 million available seat miles.
Airlines serving the destination from Europe include Air France, Finnair, Scandinavian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Condor, and Norse Atlantic Airways, alongside leisure operators such as TUI.
These services connect Phuket with several major European cities, providing holidaymakers with a broad choice of departure points.
Virgin Atlantic’s new Heathrow route adds another option to that network, particularly for travellers based in London and southern England.
Its nonstop operation removes the need for a connection en route, while the seasonal schedule aligns with demand for winter holidays in Thailand.
The launch also comes as Virgin Atlantic continues to develop its long-haul fleet and premium-cabin offering.
By combining a direct Phuket connection with its established cabin classes, the airline is positioning the new route to attract both leisure passengers and travellers seeking a more premium way to reach Southeast Asia.
