AUSTIN— Southwest Airlines (WN) is preparing its largest-ever summer schedule for 2027, with an 11-route expansion centered on Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), Nashville International Airport (BNA), and San Diego International Airport (SAN).
The new and returning services will expand the carrier’s network across the Caribbean, Central America, and several major US destinations.
The expansion will introduce nine routes that Southwest Airlines has not previously operated, while several seasonal services will return after being absent from the schedule.
Most of the new flights will operate between June 3 and August 2, 2027, giving travelers additional options during the peak summer travel period.

Southwest Airlines Adds New Routes
Austin will receive the largest share of the expansion, gaining seven new or returning routes for summer 2027.
The airline will add weekend flights from AUS to Guanacaste Airport (LIR) in Liberia, Costa Rica, Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, Bahamas, and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic.
The carrier will also restore daily seasonal service from Austin to Portland International Airport (PDX), a route Southwest last operated in 2018.
Additional Austin services will connect the Texas capital with Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV), and Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) on seasonal or weekend schedules.
Nashville will gain three new routes, including service to Boise Airport (BOI), Nassau and Providenciales Airport (PLS) in Turks and Caicos. Southwest will also bring back seasonal Nashville-BZN service that operated during 2026.

Austin And Nashville Grow
The route expansion strengthens Southwest’s presence at two airports where the airline already maintains substantial operations.
At AUS, Southwest expects to operate about 143 departures on peak days next summer, representing its largest schedule at the airport.
The airline remains a major operator in Austin despite increasing competition from other carriers.
Southwest is also preparing to open one of its new airport lounges at AUS, adding a new premium facility alongside its expanded flight schedule.
Nashville will similarly see a significant increase in Southwest capacity. The airline plans to operate as many as 220 daily flights from BNA during the summer 2027 schedule, reinforcing the airport’s role as another important base for network growth.

San Diego Expands Network
San Diego will receive new seasonal service to Will Rogers International Airport (OKC) in Oklahoma City. The route is scheduled to operate on Sundays, giving travelers another direct option between Southern California and Oklahoma, TPG flagged.
Southwest will also restore several seasonal routes from SAN that operated in 2026. These include services to Bozeman, Montana, Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio, expanding summer connectivity from the California airport.
The broader schedule gives Southwest a stronger presence across leisure markets while adding connectivity to several domestic destinations.
With new flights to Costa Rica, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and Turks and Caicos, the airline is also increasing its international leisure options ahead of the 2027 peak summer season.
