LONDON– EasyJet (U2) has launched its new direct service between London Southend Airport (SEN) and Munich Airport (MUC), with the first flight departing on September 17, 2026.
The new route gives passengers across Essex and southeast England another direct option for travelling to Munich, one of Germany’s major tourism and business destinations.
The service began ahead of Munich’s busy autumn travel period, including Oktoberfest and the wider winter tourism season.
easyJet will initially operate the route twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays, with the schedule set to expand later in the year.
easyJet Munich Route Launch From Southend Airport
The inaugural Southend-Munich flight operated as U2 5753 on September 17, with the aircraft scheduled to leave Southend at 07:30 and arrive in Munich at 10:10 local time.
The return service was scheduled to depart Munich at 11:00 and reach Southend at 11:50, providing a same-day travel option for passengers on the opening service.
The route covers around 870 kilometers between the two airports and provides a direct connection to Bavaria.
Flight tracking information shows the inaugural outbound service departed slightly ahead of schedule and arrived in Munich earlier than its scheduled time.
The launch also expands easyJet’s presence at London Southend, where the airline has continued adding European destinations.
The airport previously announced that the Munich route would become its 23rd easyJet connection, strengthening the carrier’s network across Europe and North Africa.
Flights From Southend Airport This Winter
For September and October, the Munich service operates on Thursdays and Sundays. London Southend Airport lists the route as a seasonal service, with flights beginning September 17 and continuing through the autumn schedule.
The schedule will become more frequent during the winter period. From November 23, easyJet is set to operate three flights per week between Southend and Munich on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, extending the route through January 1, 2027.
The timing gives passengers access to Munich during several important travel periods, including Oktoberfest, Christmas markets and winter holidays.
The city also provides access to the Bavarian Alps and nearby ski destinations, making the route relevant for both city-break travellers and winter tourists.
Holiday Travel Options From Southend Airport
Munich offers a combination of historical attractions, cultural sites, restaurants and seasonal events, while its location provides convenient access to the wider Bavarian region.
The destination is also particularly relevant during the Christmas period, when Munich becomes a popular market and shopping destination.
easyJet holidays is supporting the new route with Munich city-break and holiday packages. These packages can combine flights and hotels, giving travellers an additional option when planning trips from London Southend.
The new connection also adds another European destination for passengers in Essex, London and the wider South East.
With the planned increase to three weekly flights from late November, the Munich route will provide additional frequency during the winter travel season.
